Cell phones or smart phones in a working environment?
One of the main reasons that smart phones were created was to make life easier for the business professional. Therefore you would assume that it would be a no brainer that a smart phone would be the better option in a work environment. In reality this may not be the case. The reality is that in most cases a smart phone is not really required.
In general you will find that in a work environment you are better off going with a cell phone. The reason is that for the most part a smart phone exists to replace most of the features that would be available on your computer. Of course while you are at work you almost certainly have access to a computer anyway. That being the case there is little value to spending the extra money on a smart phone let alone on the data plan that comes with it.
The other reason that you are probably not going to want to use a smart phone in a working environment is that it is really just one more distraction. These days there are a lot of distractions at work and they can make it hard to get your work done. A smart phone greatly increases these as people have a tendency to check them all the time. The easiest way to avoid this problem is to not have one and since they are not necessary in most cases while you are at work this is not all that hard to do.
While there are certainly good reasons to go with a cell phone rather than a smart phone in a work environment there are times when you may want to consider a smart phone. The most obvious of these would be if you are out of the office a lot. A smart phone does do most of the things that your computer does, therefore it is not really necessary while you are at the office. However if you have a job that requires you to be out of the office a lot you will not have access to your computer and this is where a smart phone can come in handy.
Ultimately the decision about whether you should be using a cell phone or a smart phone at work is going to come down to your particular needs. A lot of people will chooses a smart phone when they don't really need one just because they want to have a smart phone. However there are times when you will have legitimate reasons for using one. You are going to have to look at what your needs really are so that you can make the best choice in your particular case. That being said you can safely bet that most people will choose the smart phone.
